Abstract

Chapter 4 ascertains where we are now, examining science fact, with robots such as Pepper now becoming popular in the home, especially in Japan. Cultural differences are explored. The work of Žižek, Lacan, Leo Marx, and the theologian Don Cupitt are all employed. There is an analysis of the importance of the linguistic and symbolic construction of desire, in this context. The television show Humans is referred to, as well as many other cultural products. The complexities over love are investigated in terms of free will and choice. In this context, it is explained how the sex robot can show us how to be more human.
