Abstract

The Arab Region is going through one of the most intense periods of transformation in its history, with a convergence of political, security, economic, social, and environmental drivers of change. More than any other region, energy has defined the nature of development in the Arab world for decades, and it has again arisen as a key factor in the region’s emerging agenda for change. Of particular importance in today’s development debates is the role of energy in crafting a more sustainable and equitable model of development, with the nexus to poverty reduction, food and water security, and social vulnerability gaining strong attention.
