7. Statistical Analysis of the Physical Model

Abstract

The wide range level response during a power transient is dependent on the clogging state of the steam generators and the numerical model presented in Chap. 4 can simulate this phenomenon satisfactorily. In Chap. 3, we saw that visual inspection and eddy current testing are rare and provide a partial information about the clogging state. In the same chapter, a diagnosis method based on the analysis of the dynamic response of the steam generators was evoked. However, it relies on very strong hypotheses and cannot be easily tested. In order to refine this mostly heuristic method and check its validity, a statistical analysis of the model was conducted using the methods presented in Chap. 5. Two questions drove the analyses:
  • “What is characteristic of clogging in the shape of the wide range level response curves?”
  • “How much information about the clogging state can be extracted from these data?”
