Abstract
In this chapter, we will introduce surveillance data capturing using finite-state machine (FSM) and critically compare and evaluate the major technology of surveillance data compression. FSM is used in the case transmitting between different states of a system. It is important to study FSM in intelligent surveillance since the FSM is an approach in bridging the gap between real world and semantic spaces by events. Moreover, a surveillance system records data all day long, to effectively deal with the input data of surveillance systems, and technologies of data compression are indispensable which will be introduced at the second part of this chapter.
