In this paper, we discuss the properties of surveys and Agent Based Models (ABMs). Both research methods are, taken by their own, well suited to address sociological research questions. However, combining both methods enhances the options of analysis for researchers. We demonstrate the combination of both methods by addressing a practical relevant question from the field of distributive justice research on earnings. Changes in the earning distribution usually go in hand with a change in the scope of inequality and with a change in the mean of the earning distribution. However, both aspects occur simultaneously, and may exert partial effects into opposite directions on non-reflexive justice evaluations, such that the overall effect of the change in earning distribution is difficult to anticipate. Therefore, we designed an ABM to measure the overall effect on non-reflexive justice evaluations. In this context, we show how data from a factorial survey on non-reflexive justice evaluations can be used to increase the determination of ABMs by empirically parametrizing the individual behavior of the agents.
