"The automotive sector has never done itself a favor by concentrating on just one solution in the competition of different powertrain systems. This is also valid in the current case where electric cars are preferred over combustion-engine-powered cars", says Prof. Dr. Uwe Dieter Grebe. In the interview with ATZelektronik, the Vice President for Global Business Development, Sales and International Operations at AVL List pleads for a balanced powertrain portfolio focused on appropriate application use-cases.
Prof. Dr. Uwe Dieter Grebe (born 1965) studied mechanical engineering at the Technische Universtität Darmstadt. His professional career began in 1991 at General Motors/Adam Opel AG, where he held various management positions in gasoline and diesel engine development. In the Fiat GM joint venture, he was appointed Functional Leader Gasoline Engines. In 2004, he assumed worldwide responsibility for the advance development of all engine, transmission and hybrid components at GM Powertrain. In 2011, the current Honorary Professor at the Vienna University of Technology changed to a new position at GM, as Executive Director responsible for all interdisciplinary activities to ensure CO2 compliance of GM's European vehicle portfolio. He also took responsibility for research and advance development activities for vehicle, powertrain and manufacturing systems as well as alternative powertrain concepts. Since 2012, Grebe has been Executive Vice President Global Business Development, Sales and International Operations, Powertrain Systems of AVL List GmbH in Graz, Austria.
