Abstract

It must have been in 1994 when, while attending a seminar, I said to Katarina Eskola in the coffee queue during a break that we should organize an international cultural studies conference in Finland. Eskola, the director of the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies at the University of Jyväskylä, was enthusiastic about the idea, and we quickly gathered a group of colleagues to start planning the event.

This section draws on an article I wrote together with Anita Kangas (Alasuutari & Kangas 2020, in process).

By now, 32 country reports have been published in that program (Council of Europe 2019).
