In the future, if the in-vessel of the EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) machine becomes radioactive, man access into the Torus Hall will be restricted due to radiation levels. Remote Handling maintenance will be vital to the continued operation of the machine. An Articulated boom has been designed as the device for in-vessel transport of all equipment and servomanipulators and is part of EAST RH (Remote Handling) plan.The Articulated boom consists of six segments on the horizontal plane with a reach of 6m.The terminal segment can also be tilted to position the end-effector close to the top or bottom of the vessel.The boom can reach any part of the vessel from one port.This has been demonstrated in ADMAS(Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical Systems).
