Abstract

In our extensive analysis covering 1990–2022, we examined the intricate dynamics among carbon emissions, green energy adoption, rural population size, internet access, and the rural poverty ratio influencing economic growth in China. Using ARDL estimation, we found that carbon emissions significantly hindered both short-term and long-term economic growth due to environmental pollution and health issues. In contrast, green energy adoption positively influenced sustainability, investment, and energy security. Rapid rural population growth negatively impacted resources, while internet access drove economic growth through communication and market expansion. The rural poverty ratio hindered growth, emphasizing the need for targeted poverty alleviation. To foster green growth in rural China, integrated poverty reduction, green strategies, investment in green energy, financial inclusion, and dedicated green rural funds are essential.
