I came back to Bangalore in May 2015 and Mr Kiran Kumar offered me Honorary Distinguished Professorship at ISRO HQ which I continue to occupy till now. It has given me another opportunity to be associated with ISRO and observe ISAC from not so much of a distance. Professor U R Rao passed away on 24 July 2017 after brief illness. He was coming to his office at ISRO HQ every day, busy with reading, writing and advising the current generation on various aspects of space science and engineering. He was Chairman of Space Science Advisory Committee and Chancellor of Indian Space Science and Technology Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, till his last day. As a mark of respect to this great son (scientist) of India and the founder of satellite technology, Government of India changed the name of his most beloved creation, ISRO Satellite Centre after his name as “U R Rao Satellite Centre” (URSC). Mr Kiran Kumar, then Chairman ISRO, needs to be thanked for this gesture. …
