The Power Consumption Optimization for Thin-Sheet Rolling on a Reversing Mill

Abstract

Based on the method by A.I. Tselikov for calculating the power–force parameters of the cold thin-sheet rolling and the known methods for calculating the power consumption by drum-type coilers and decoilers, a method has been developed for determining the specific power consumption for the reversive rolling considering the tension. According to calculation results, the qualitative and quantitative effect of the tension on the total power consumption has been studied. It has been established that the cold rolling with predominant decoiler tension is always more energy efficient. The modeling of the current rolling schedule has shown that an increase in the decoiler tension from 0.01 (the currently effective value) to 0.2, with respect to the resistance of the metal to deformation, allows for a reduction in the power consumption for rolling on a 1200 reversing mill from 108.5 to 92.5 kW h/t, i.e., by ~15%.
