Abstract

This chapter begins with questioning what kind of futures cities should have. It explores the process of collective image formation. It examines the collective images of cities depicted in popular media to understand the imagined futures of the city already in existence. Then, the chapter questions the soundness of these images in light of how much change we can expect given the emerging changes already visible in city environments around the world.
