Towards Visual SLAM with Memory Management for Large-Scale Environments

Abstract

Memory consumption of visual SLAM systems grows rapidly with their operation ranges increase. A well-designed organization scheme of map data is important for the scalability of visual SLAM in large-scale environments. In this paper, we present a novel visual SLAM system with an efficient memory management method to manage the map data using a spatial database. Experimental results on two popular public datasets demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of our system.
