Abstract

This chapter explores the core topic of this book, the role of wellness in urban economic development. Discussion starts with a brief description of the major trends behind the wellness revolution and continues with a brief introduction to the wellness economy. From the characterization of the wellness economy, the discussion moves to local policy making, followed by a brief outline of local asset analysis, which helps to determine the initial local conditions for wellness-oriented economic development. The last section of the chapter provides an outline of the preconditions for wellness-oriented cluster policy.
