Migrants’ lived experiences are shaped by the interplay of several variables such as age, gender, ethnicity, religion, social status, education, demography, economic development, the environment, history and the (geo)political context. Considering the interactions of these factors is essential to understanding migrants’ subjective outlook as they navigate the various contexts that form their journeys. Yet, in the spheres of media, policy and even academia, discourses on migration are often framed in dichotomic structures that hinder apprehending complexity.
