For various reasons like rising energy and material costs, governmental regulations or rising customer awareness, energy and resource efficiency has become more and more important in the last years. Against this background, the paper proposes a systematic method to foster energy and resource efficiency for the case of (aluminium) foundries. Based on priorisation and measurements of consumers this methodology applies material and energy flow analysis as mean for structuring and analyzing data and includes all relevant forms of material and energy. On this base, alternative concepts for enhancing the energy and resource efficiency can be identified and holistically evaluated.
