A Review of Research on Module Division Methods Based on Different Perspectives

Abstract

Module division is the key and foundation of modular design. Module division should be based on the basic principle of “strong aggregation within modules and weak coupling between modules”. In product development and design, reasonable and effective module division is of great significance for designers to seek more new functions and new solutions. The rationality of module division largely affects product performance and cost. This article explains the significance of module division in mechanical products, and classifies and summarizes the existing division methods and technologies. According to the characteristics of the product, the method of module division is reviewed from different perspectives such as the product’s function and structure, green design attributes, and different stages of the life cycle. Through the research and analysis of these methods, some prospects are finally made.
