Besides the “frontloading” approach, ensuring the reusability of software functions that have already been developed and validated is a particularly promising way to achieve this goal. Software standards such as Autosar and Genivi provide the framework required for this. Employing the virtual verification platform (VAP) enables the BMW Group to test and validate software for volume production early on in the development process, even before the target hardware is available. As a VAP supplier, the MBtech Group implemented the concept on the basis of its development software with hardware that uses PC technology. This was accomplished in close collaboration with Mentor Graphics as a supplier of Autosar software and tooling. …
