A synthesis and diverse property studies on Ni doped ZnS Nanowires

Abstract

The wurtzite-type pure and Ni doped ZnS nanowires were synthesized via hydrothermal method at temperature 185 °C using ethylenediamine as solvent and complexing ligand. The structural, optical, photo-luminance (PL), surface morphological and chemical compositional study (EDAX) of pure and Ni doped ZnS nanowires were studied. Hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnS nanowires was identified from X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and selected area electron diffraction patterns. The band gap energy was estimated using UV–Vis spectra of samples and it was found that the energy band gap decreases with Ni content increases. In PL study blue emission was perceived. Messy hair morphology was observed from SEM. Dimensions of the nanowires and the d spacing value was determined from TEM micrographs. Purity of the as-prepared samples was realized from energy dispersive spectra. Chemical bonding and stretching was noticed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.
