As an engineering service provider and manufacturer of measuring and testing technology, AVL addresses various facets of RDE. Dr. Günter Fraidl, Senior Vice President Powertrain Systems Passenger Cars, shares his views on random influences under real-world conditions, the role of fuels, and the need to utilise simulation and test benches to handle the complexity of consistently ensuring RDE.
Dr. Günter Fraidl was born on 7 July 1957 in Neunkirchen, Austria. In 1981, he finished his studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Technology in Vienna. He spent the next six years at the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines, led by Prof H.P. Lenz, at the same university. Among others, his research activities focused on mixture formation and combustion with gasoline engines, including his PhD thesis on "Mixture Formation with Gasoline Manifold Injection". He joined AVL in Graz as Group Leader Gasoline Engine Development in 1987. After having held various management positions in this business segment, he was promoted to Senior Vice President Powertrain System Passenger Cars in 2010. In this position, he is responsible for the global business field Powertrain Systems Passenger Cars.
