Aging effect on the structural and optical properties of ZnSe nanostructures

Abstract

In the present work synthesis of ZnSe nanostructures with different time interval using a simple hydrothermal method has been discussed. The prepared nanostructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), diffused reflectance spectroscopy, UV–vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. From the XRD pattern it is observed that the cubic phase of ZnSe nanostructures thus synthesized have increased crystallite size on increasing the time of reaction. The band gap was found to decrease with aging time enhancement for the fabrication of ZnSe nanostructures. A blue shift in the absorption band edge was observed in the synthesized ZnSe nanoparticles as compared to the bulk ZnSe. The absorption intensity also decreased with increased reaction time of the prepared samples.
