In recent months ATM technology has been praised as a solution to the ever rising need for bandwidth both in LAN and WAN environments, since it not only offers higher speeds at moderate cost but also the ability to assign resources according to needs. However it seems that apart from experiments in small laboratory environments little experience is available on how ATM — or rather the available ATM equipment — performs under heavy load.
