The product of understanding events in any chosen environment is often referred to as Situation Assessment. Situation Assessment involves building a description of events, or sequences of events, in terms of relationships between the objects in the environment. While people perform Situation Assessment as a matter of course in everyday actions, automating the process within a machine is difficult. Situation Assessment adaptation involves modifying the Situation Assessment process to provide an improvement in the assessment of a situation compared with the best approximate assessment. A technique, founded upon Case-Based Reasoning, is presented to facilitate adaptation of Situation Assessment processes.
