The electric vehicle has changed the rules of the research-and-development game for the world’s automobile manufacturers. China’s automobile industry has profited from the change and is adding momentum to the trend towards electric vehicles with a number of well-financed start-ups and a sheer inexhaustible pool of well-trained engineers. Like no other country, China is investing in the training of IT and electrical engineers needed to handle the testing and validation of electrical components. The result is that a number of Chinese manufacturers are close to producing electric vehicles that are comparable to European models in terms of quality, design and technology. …
