Transmissions are used in practically all automotive drivetrains, both in conventional and in electrified configurations. The VKA at RWTH Aachen University and FEV have investigated whether a refined, analytical-empirical simulation approach for the transmission losses delivers good results. For more detailed investigations of hydraulic losses, a 3-D CFD simulation with the MPS method is presented here. Furthermore, it is shown how the co-simulation method can be utilized for the achievement of an optimal system configuration. …
