Controllable synthesis of cadmium molybdate nanostructures with different morphologies by novel approach

Abstract

Pure cadmium molybdate (CdMoO4) nanoparticles were prepared via a novel precipitation route by using cadmium acetate dihydrate and ammonium heptamolybdate tetrahydrate in an aqueous solution. Besides, three amino acids cysteine, alanine, and asparagine were introduce as capping agents and their effects on the morphology and particle size of cadmium molybdate were investigated. It was found that size and morphology could be easily realized by changing the type of amino acids. XRD, SEM, EDS, and UV–vis spectroscopy were employed to characterize structural, morphological, and optical properties of (CdMoO4) nanoparticles. Cadmium molybdate (CdMoO4) nanoparticles indicated a ferromagnetic behavior at room temperature, as evidenced by using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Furthermore, the photocatalysis results reveal that the maximum decolorization of 97 % for methyl orange occurred with (CdMoO4) samples in 60 min under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation.
