Abstract

The article delves into the impact of gamma irradiation on the chemical, thermal, and dielectric properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) thin films. PTFE, known for its high thermal stability and excellent dielectric strength, is widely used in spacecraft and electrical insulation applications. However, exposure to gamma rays from the sun can degrade PTFE films, reducing the lifespan of satellites and other critical systems. This study focuses on understanding the effects of low-dose gamma irradiation on PTFE's chemical structure and thermal properties, as well as its dielectric properties. By examining these correlations, the research aims to enhance the durability and performance of PTFE insulating materials in demanding environments, such as space and nuclear power plants.
