Recently one of my colleagues, an economics professor from Italy, was traveling through the West and stopped to visit. During a dinner conversation, he told me that he and his daughter intended to travel north to Yellowstone National Park (YNP). Yellowstone is generally considered the crown jewel of the American Park System. I told him about the history of our National Park Service, YNP’s unique stature in our Park System, and the amazing sights he could expect there. We agreed to have dinner at the conclusion of his trip, on his way back to the Denver airport. …
