Nuance has expanded the conversational and cognitive capabilities of its Dragon Drive speech recognition software. From now on, all occupants can operate personalised functions in their car with voice control.

Nuance is expanding the conversational and cognitive skills of its Dragon Drive platform for the connected car. The Automotive Assistant allows each occupant to operate various in-car functions via voice control, including navigation, music and infotainment content. The occupants can speak naturally with no special wake-up command and without touching a single button. Dragon Drive is also expanding its car-to-smart-home interoperability, allowing car makers to develop specific in-car infotainment features that can talk to and control smart home systems and applications.

Talk naturally with your car

Drivers and passengers can operate various personalised functions, from music, navigation and Point of Interest (POI) search functions to news feeds, heating and air conditioning. The Automotive Assistant understands and learns individual preferences over time and takes them into account. This is all made possible by solutions for machine learning and contextual reasoning, as well as a combination of signal enhancement and acoustic innovations: ambient wake-up allows the Assistant to react automatically and naturally to speech, speech biometry helps it identify the speaker, and its integrated hybrid-cloud speech recognition provides the necessary performance.

Dragon Drive is also advancing car-to-smart-home interoperability. Nuance’s Automotive Assistant can be integrated with other assistants and third-party applications and services, such as lighting, security and other smart home hub services, allowing drivers and passengers to stay connected to their car and home no matter where they are.

Collaboration with DFKI

Just two weeks ago, Nuance announced its collaboration with the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz – DKFI). Nuance and DFKI are conducting joint research on cognitive and conversational AI systems for autonomous driving.
