The Progress in Additive Manufacturing Special Issue “Recent Advances in Additive Manufacturing” brings together a series of carefully selected manuscripts derived from oral presentations from the Modeling and Simulation in Additive Manufacturing: Materials Design, Property Prediction, and Process Control Symposium that took place at the Materials Science & Technology Conference and Exhibition 2017 (MS&T’17) held in Pittsburgh, PA, USA from October 8–12, 2017. Additionally, original research articles and review papers were also solicited from the field of Additive Manufacturing to form a comprehensive set of scientific, technological, and industrial viewpoints. The contributed papers cover several important aspects of Additive Manufacturing including, but not limited to process design, material properties, testing and performance. Other topics include computational modelling of the additive processes, powder and component characterization, emerging technologies for printing of low melting point alloys, ceramics, and electronics, as well as the emerging areas of 4D printing and cybersecurity concerns in additive manufacturing.
