Effect of Load Ratios on the Behavior of Asymmetric Slim Floor Beams Exposed to Fire

Abstract

During a fire resistance test for validating the fire resistance performance of a building’s structural members, a member is generally exposed to flames while being applied with a defined load ratio. In the case of a member capable of bearing a large load, the load may not be applied at the corresponding defined load ratio. In this case, an additional procedure to check the fire resistance needs to be performed through analysis or document research. In this study, two different load ratios were applied to specimens comprising of two different sections in a Korean asymmetric floor beam, respectively, to conduct tests to validate fire resistance performance. Analysis was conducted using the finite element software ANSYS and the results were compared to validate the analysis model. The analysis model that was verified was used to analyze the fire resistance behaviors in four types of Korean asymmetric floor beams according to load ratio. Based on the results of the analysis, the fire resistance and limiting temperature of each model for a load ratio of 0.1 units were presented.
