CO₂-neutral alternative fuels can make an important contribution to the defossilization of the transportation sector. To evaluate their suitability, FEV has investigated hydrotreated vegetable oil, methanol, 1-octanol, oxymethylene ether and dimethyl ether using single- cylinder research engines and evaluated for their efficiency and emissions potential, compared with conventional fossil diesel fuel.
