Zusammenfassung

Die zunehmende Verstädterung und der Mobilitätsbedarf führen zu einem hohen Verkehrsaufkommen in städtischen Gebieten. Da die Verkehrsinfrastruktur begrenzt ist, führt zu viel Verkehr zu Staus, Lärm und Luftverschmutzung. Die Stadtverwaltungen konzentrieren sich auf eine Verringerung des Individualverkehrs, um diese Unannehmlichkeiten zu bekämpfen. Daher werden kollektive Verkehrsträger, d. h. öffentliche Verkehrssysteme (PTS), eingeführt oder ausgebaut. Konventionelle Verkehrsmittel sind Busse und Straßenbahnen. Einerseits kann der PTS den städtischen Verkehr reduzieren. Auf der anderen Seite wird aber auch der Komfort gemindert. Erstens liegen die tatsächlichen Ausgangs- und Zielorte der Nutzer nicht unbedingt in fußläufiger Entfernung zu einer Bus- oder Straßenbahnhaltestelle. Zweitens sind Busse und Straßenbahnen oft verspätet oder überfüllt.
