Zusammenfassung

Der politische Umgang mit dem Thema Immigration steht in den USA in einem Spannungsverhältnis zwischen dem Selbstverständnis als Einwanderernation, wirtschaftlichen Interessen und xenophobischen Tendenzen. So wurde zwar die Einwanderung prinzipiell gefördert, andererseits dabei immer wieder einzelne Gruppen diskriminiert. Die Attraktivität der USA als beliebtestes Auswanderungsziel weltweit ist dennoch ungebrochen. Mit zunehmendem politischem Gewicht der migrantischen Bevölkerung erwächst langfristig die Chance auf eine umfassende Reform der Einwanderungspolitik. Unter dem immigrationsfeindlichen Präsidenten Donald Trump wird dies aber nicht realisierbar sein.
