Zusammenfassung

Umweltpolitik in den USA ist ein spannendes wie auch spannungsgeladenes Politikfeld, das nach Jahren stiefmütterlicher Betrachtung, in jüngster Vergangenheit verstärkt ins Blickfeld geriet. Im Umgang mit Debatten zu Klimawandel und Artensterben wurde es zum Inbild des stetig zunehmenden gesellschaftlichen Auseinanderdriftens der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika, sowie eines neuen außenpolitischen Isolationismus unter der Überschrift America First. Gleichzeitig war Umweltpolitik jeher eines der innovativsten Politikfelder in den USA. Als Antwort auf ein divided government setzten sich sowohl Ansätze des Neuen Pragmatismus als auch des Neuen Föderalismus durch.
