It is not easy to draw up an estimate at the very beginning of a test project, since only general information is available at that time. There is a choice of methods for estimating, suited to a variety of situations. A number of these methods are discussed in this chapter. The estimate can be refined by keeping metrics during test projects. This provides figures about the history that can be used in subsequent test projects. We will describe how these can be transferred into a model and produce more accurate estimates.
