Abstract

In extremely hot and dry weather conditions, the condenser pressure rises beyond its set value when the temperature rises beyond the designed condenser temperature. So in the present work, an effort is made to solve the issue of the window air conditioner for such weather conditions. The incorporation of a cooling pad between the condenser and condenser fan for evaporative cooling will not only solve the problem of excessive pressure rise due to atmospheric temperature but will also reduce the running cost of the air conditioning system. The reduction in running cost conserves an appreciable amount of high-grade energy. The proposed modified window air conditioner, when used worldwide during hot and dry weather conditions can result in a huge cumulative saving of energy. The present findings show that the performance indices of the modified air conditioner are considerably improved. The coefficient of performance of the air conditioner is increased by 45–50% and a decrease of 30–32% in the power consumption and 20% in pressure ratio is observed.
