To benefit from the capabilities of multi core processors, one needs to adapt the software that is to be deployed on those processor types. This often includes changes in software architecture. Tools like Fraunhofer SAVE may support this process, but they cannot parallelise software in a fully automated manner. Architects mainly need to consider execution semantics and data flow dependencies when parallelising software. The proposed approach is applied in the Prognostics Center at Fraunhofer IESE. It is based on a systematic process for parallelisation of software intensive systems. In addition to the steps presented here, for certain requirements also the application of additional synchronisation constructs like clocks or atomic operations could become necessary. …
