Abstract

Der Einsatz von Rechnern zur Datenverarbeitung in der öffentlichen Verwaltung besitzt eine lange Tradition. Bereits 1890 wurden in den USA Lochkartenmaschinen zur Aufbereitung der Volkszählung eingesetzt, um die statistischen Auswertung der Zensusdaten zu erleichtern und zu beschleunigen. Die erste elektronische Datenverarbeitungsanlage in der öffentlichen Verwaltung in Deutschland wurde 1956 bei der Bundesversicherungsanstalt für Angestellte in Berlin aufgestellt.
