Green step-grow polymerization of biodegradable amino acid based diacids with 3,5-diamino-N-(thiazole-2-yl)benzamide: characterization and study on bioactivity

Abstract

The poly(amide-imide)s (PAI)s were obtained by the direct polycondensation reaction of chiral diacids composed of naturally occurring α-amino acids with 3,5-diamino-N-(thiazole-2-yl)benzamide in a green medium consisting of molten tetra-n-butylammonium bromide and triphenyl phosphite. The resulting new polymers were obtained in good yields and the structures of them were verified by FT-IR, 1H NMR, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis techniques. The biodegradability of the monomers and polymers were co-cultivated with airborne fungal spores in culture media to study their biological activity. The results of this study showed that the synthesized monomers and polymers are biologically active and nontoxic in the natural environment.
