Happy 100th Anniversary, ASM International!

Following the recommendation of the Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance (JMEP) Committee, this special issue commemorates the 100th anniversary of ASM International by re-publishing for our readers a selection of papers published in JMEP as well as its three predecessor journals: Journal of Heat Treating, Journal of Materials Shaping Technology, and Journal of Materials Engineering. Sixteen papers were selected from those papers published between 1979 and 2007 using selection criteria that included citation and download statistics, current relevance, material diversity, and application. Consideration was given to topics and themes that for reasons of history and character of the journal constitute some of our core areas of interest. The topics include ceramics, coatings, corrosion, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, magnetic materials, metal composites, deformation processes, modeling, solid oxide fuel cells, and welding.
