Rocks in high altitudes and cold regions often experience various kinds of weathering. In such conditions, cyclic freeze–thaw (F–T) is considered one of the most common and destructive weathering factors that cause rock degradation. During the F–T cycle, water turns into ice will produce a 9% volume change (Davision and Nye 1985), and causing the microstructure to expand and become a macroscopic crack (Liu et al. 2020; Qin et al. 2020a), which will cause F–T damage to the rock and reduce its mechanical properties. …
