Improved luminescent properties of Eu3+ activated phosphor α-Sr2P2O7 by charge compensation

Abstract

A series of phosphors Sr2−xP2O7:xEu3+ (x = 0.02–0.16), Sr2−2xP2O7:xEu3+, xM+ (x = 0.1, M = Li, Na, K) and Sr2−2xP2O7:xEu3+ xNa+ (x = 0.02–0.16) were synthesized through high-temperature solid-state reaction. It is found that Na+ is the best compensator among Li+, Na+, K+ by XRD and emission analysis. The luminescent properties of Sr2P2O7:Eu3+, Na+ were dramatically improved in the aspect of the emission intensities and chromaticity, comparing with Sr2P2O7:Eu3+ (without charge compensation). And the mechanism of which was discussed in detail. Under the excitation of 393 nm, charge compensated phosphors Sr2P2O7:Eu3+, Na+ show intense red emission at 610 nm, which is attributed to the 5D0 → 7F2 transition of Eu3+ ions. The luminescence decay, concentration quenching and temperature quenching effect were also investigated. The results indicated that Sr2P2O7:Eu3+, Na+ may be a candidate as a red component in lighting field.
