Abstract

The key pillars for human well-being are access to energy, healthy living environment, economic development and poverty alleviation. Due to the development of modern societies and increasing population, the energy demand is increasing day-by-day. However, in the present-day world, carbon emission from energy generation is increasing at an alarming rate. Reduction in energy consumption is thus the pressing priority globally as not only it saves the scarce resource but also reduces the overall carbon footprint. This can be achieved by carrying out energy auditing, which is a process of analysing the several usages of energy and spot the areas where wastage can be reduced to minimum if not completely eradicated. In this paper the results of walkthrough energy auditing of the institutional building are presented by focusing on the utility bill analysis, suggesting changes in lighting loads, and analysis of rooftop PV system. The economic and environmental effects by calculating annual savings and reduction in CO2 emission are also covered in our study.
