Influence of dopant concentration on up-conversion emission of Y2O3:(Yb3+, Er3+)

Abstract

Y2O3:(Yb3+, Er3+) powders were synthesized by a simple solid state process. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and laser excited spectroscopy. The formation of Y2O3:(Yb3+, Er3+) samples was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The up-conversion emissions of Y2O3:(Yb3+, Er3+) samples were observed under 978 nm laser excitation. The energy transfer from Yb3+ ions to Er3+ ions plays an important role in the increase of intensity of up-conversion emissions. The energy transfer between Yb3+ and Er3+ ions and related emissions were elaborated. The effects of dopant Yb3+ concentration and pumping power on up-conversion emissions were studied. The intensity ratios of the red to green emission increase with the increasing concentration of Yb3+ ions. Also, the intensities of green and red up-conversion emissions increase with the increasing pumping power.
