Influence of Thermal Curing on the Chemical Composition of Microphases and the Properties of the Prepared Polyepoxy Urethane-Containing Isocyanurate

Abstract

We present an experimental and theoretical investigation of the thermal and mechanical properties of modified polymer networks based on epoxy resin, 2,4-toluene diisocyanate, polytetramethylene oxide and dimethylbenzylamine. With variations in the curing temperature and the ratio of the diol, diisocyanate components and epoxy resin, epoxy urethane-containing isocyanurate polymers are modified. For reaction systems cured below 100°C, the polymers contain many flexible chain structures and become rubbery at ~60°C. A processing temperature above 120°C leads to a significant composition change, which affects the properties of the resulting systems. The glass transition temperature of the synthesized networks increases to 225°C. The elasticity modulus increases by 107%. The yield strength at compression with increasing curing temperature from 120 to 200°C is accompanied by improved mechanical and thermal properties of the samples. The yield strength is increased by 48%, the elastic modulus by 107%, the Brinell hardness by 40%, and the Shore hardness by 20%. The glass transition temperature increases to 225°C.
