The first chapter states the research problem addressed in this study. Before attempting to provide an answer, the issue first requires clarification and delineation. The following paragraphs do so by putting the research question into context, regarding academic and managerial relevance, as well as significant prior research in related areas. Specific research questions and a set of expected (academic and managerial) contributions build on this basis. A section on the research method concludes the opening.
