The FCCC has been the centre of serious negotiations even within the industrialized countries. The non-industrialized developing countries of the South participated in the FCCC, expecting to reap the environmental benefits that would be translated into ecological conservation, providing for more sustainable livelihood, not only for the urban few, but also for the rural majority. It therefore gives me great pleasure to present these thoughts on what I consider to be the African point of view, which I believe is representative of the Southern perspective of the idea of JI within the context of the FCCC.
