Abstract

This paper proposes a reduced-complexity detection technique for a radio frequency mirror media-based space-time block coded spatial modulation (MB-STBC-SM) over a slow, frequency-flat Rayleigh fading channel, which reduces the computational complexity of the MB-STBC-SM maximum-likelihood (ML) detector. Furthermore, three different mirror activation pattern (MAP) selection algorithms, which improve the error performance of MB-STBC-SM are presented. Additionally, the Monte Carlo simulation results of the reduced-computational complexity detector and the MAP selection algorithms for MB-STBC-SM, which show near-ML optimal error performance and improved error performance, respectively, are presented in this paper. The computational complexity analysis of the proposed reduced computational complexity scheme of MB-STBC-SM is presented in terms of complex operations and demonstrates at least a \(95\%\) reduction in computational complexity when high order \(M\)-ary \((M\ge 16)\) QAM are employed.
