Abstract

Increasing demand in high quality products with high safety requirements and reduced time-to-market are the challenges faced during the development of embedded products. These products irrespective of different domains (consumer, automotive, medical, aerospace) incorporate multidisciplinary (electrical, mechanical, electronic) systems as a part of hardware along with complex software that controls the hardware. Late integration of these multidisciplinary systems in the development cycle followed by the software verification and validation may lead to expensive redesigns and delayed time-to-market. Model-based design (MBD) approach can be used to overcome these challenges. Hardware-in-loop (HIL) verification is an effective method that can be used to verify the control software. Plant modeling is the crucial part for HIL verification. This paper will provide a review of one of the steps of model-based design (plant modeling) that can be used for software testing along with the impact of fidelity of model on the verification.
